Here’s a rundown of 12 Man City apps, with ratings and information for each one.
1. CityApp – Manchester City FC
The official Manchester City app has everything that you would expect from a licensed product. There are videos and news articles to browse through, and you can check through fixtures and results. Free in-house videos, (including match highlights) are a major plus, but you will have to sign up with a social media account to access the content. It’s a great quality app and it’s definitely worth checking out for the video content while many other apps use it as a news resource. For most supporters, you can’t go wrong. Free Version
2. A Manchester City Forum
If you’re more interested in interacting with your fellow Citizens, this forum app will be quite useful, and it has received great reviews on the app store too. However, it couldn’t sync to the server after it was installed, meaning that I couldn’t access the app itself. It hasn’t been updated in almost three years, and it seems unlikely that there will be an update anytime soon. The original forum is still running, and it’s available online if you’re interested. Free Version
3. CityVR
CityVR is a weird one. It’s a virtual reality app ‘designed to be used in conjunction with compatible headsets’. If you’re one of the lucky few with the kit to use it, the app will allow you to watch pre-recorded training sessions with VR elements. (For some reason.) It’s not the most useful app on this list, but the content appears to be high quality if you can get it working. There are also mini-games that use the VR functions, but it won’t be useful for most users. Free Version

If you’re looking for a dedicated Premier League news application this will suit your needs, although some of the features didn’t work on my device. The Tweets and Stats pages refused to load, but the news itself was reasonably varied. There are other news apps on the list that are more polished, and they’re probably worth checking out before this one. Free Version
5. CityHome – Manchester Guide
This is a niche app, but it could be useful if you’re planning to attend your first home game in the near future. It’s basically a travel guide for the stadium and the surrounding area, with a few extra features that work a lot better on the official app. You can access videos from City’s YouTube page, and tweets from the bottom of the screen. It really isn’t worth downloading, and I’m not entirely sure why it exists. It’s one of the worst official club apps that I’ve ever downloaded, and it should be avoided. Free Version
6. Manchester City News
Here’s another news app that focusses solely on MCFC. It sources news directly from the club, as well as newspapers and Sky Sports. You can also access the players Twitter feeds, (allegedly, it wouldn’t work for me) and add fixtures to the calendar on your device. It’s a capable application when it works, and it’s handy to use during games. Downloading it could be worthwhile if you’re more interested in team news. Free Version
7. Man City (Football Alarm)
Man City are involved in so many competitions these days that it can sometimes be hard to keep track of when they’re playing. If you find yourself missing games, this alarm is a useful way to stay in the know as it will set a reminder alarm 30 minutes before the next game. It also has an integrated news feed, but it’s not the best on this list, and the background noises are annoying after a few minutes of using the app. It is a good way to keep up with games, but you could also sync the fixtures to your device using the Manchester City News app. Free Version
8. Manchester City FC keyboard
This is another official application that gives you a Manchester City branded keyboard to type with. It’s easy to setup, and it works with no issues. If you want a Man City keyboard for your Android device then this is where to go. Free Version
9. Manchester City Manager ’16
This fantasy football manager app might not be as in-depth as Football Manager, but it uses licensed Man City players and it’s free to play. I’m not the biggest fan of F2P ‘fantasy’ games, but it’s an adequate option if you like that sort of thing. The largest in-app purchase is roughly $115, but you can play for free. Free Version
10. Manchester City FC News
This is the last of the news apps on our list, and probably the best pick of the bunch. This offering has great reviews, and the news is sourced from a decent number of websites. If you want a no-nonsense news app to catch up with the latest Man City reports, this is the one to choose. Free Version
11. Manchester City FC Striker Challenge
If you want to have a bit of fun, check out the Manchester City striker challenge. It’s billed as an arcade football game, although it’s reasonably basic and it’s nothing like FIFA. Essentially, it’s a rhythmic tapping game with a football overlay. It’s okay to play, and the goalkeeper is hard to beat. If you need a Man City game for your device, it’s not a bad option. Free Version
12. Manchester City FC Powershot Challenge
The last of the apps on this list is another arcade game, and this one lets you compete for prizes. It’s not very fun to play, and it forces you to sign up before you can even practice. There are so many games available on the Play Store, and this just isn’t good enough when compared to some of its competitors. If you don’t care about the prizes, it’s probably worth avoiding. Free Version
Conclusion
All and all, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. From apps that don’t work, to virtual reality uselessness, Man City doesn’t have the best quality apps available on the store.
