I’ll be honest here, I don’t recommend using the spreadsheet apps for Android on a small screen phone. It will be a hassle to enter data effectively. However, if you have a tablet, the whole process will become a breeze. Note: The best spreadsheet apps for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy Note III smartphone. I made a few tables using these apps, and they worked fine. Some of the apps will need an active internet connection to work properly.
1. Google Sheets
Google has made some of the best apps for Android and Google Sheets is no different. The minimalistic look of the app and slew of handy features has made it my personal favorite. While Google Docs was featured on the best productivity apps for Android list, Google Sheets didn’t get the time to shine. I love the cloud save feature of the app that saves the document after each edit or entry. The app is easy to use and is very versatile. You can even export spreadsheets in many formats if you desire. Google Sheets is highly recommended if you need a reliable spreadsheet app for Android. Free Version
2. WPS Office + PDF
WPS Office is a permanent resident on all my Android devices. While Google Sheets only caters to the spreadsheets, this app can take everything to another level. WPS Office has one of the best interfaces I’ve seen on an Android spreadsheet app, and that translates into good efficiency. One of the best features of this app is the cloud storage saving. Attach any cloud storage you use with the app and the documents will automatically be saved online after you are done. The tabbed document viewing is whole another experience. It allows you to open multiple documents at once and compare data. This makes it easier to copy and move entries too. Thanks to the full support, the documents can be shared wirelessly. The app is also fully compatible with USB and Bluetooth keyboards. That’s not all; the app supports 47 different languages as well. Free Version
3. Polaris Office + PDF
Polaris Office is the app you should get if you have a large tablet. It looks and works amazing on a 10.1 inch tablet. Polaris Office is not a dedicated spreadsheet app on Android but can provide you quality tools for that. The app comes with support for XLS and XLSX formats; these are both used by Microsoft Excel. But this is not why I’m a fan of the app. The app comes with mover 300 formulas for finance, date, time and arithmetic. There are also standard filters, charts and templates that can be made using 173 different shapes. All in all, this is a highly competitive spreadsheet app for Android. Free Version
4. Docs To Go™ Free Office Suite
If you need a stable and reliable spreadsheet app for your Android, Docs To Go is the way to go. The app has a rather simple interface with almost no unique design elements. The app wants you to go straight to business. The spreadsheet features of the app include freeze panes, sorting and auto fill. The extensive options to format cells, numbers and sheets makes it one of the best spreadsheet apps for Android around. Inserting, resizing, hiding and even deleting rows or columns is extremely easy. The intuitive touch controls make the app a breeze to use as well. Free Version
5. OfficeSuite 8 Pro
Office 8 Pro is the most robust office suites on Android. However, it comes with a premium price tag as well. The price can easily be justified if you are going to work a lot on your Android tablet or smartphone. However, if you are only looking for a good spreadsheet app for Android, this might not be the best choice. Don’t get me wrong, the app is still amazingly robust with spreadsheet related features. But paying a premium price just to access the features that are available on other apps seems a bit illogical to me. But if you need a full office suite, this app is worth the investment. The app allows you to do almost everything that the PC version of Microsoft Excel allows. Free Version
6. Microsoft Excel
This is where it all started. This is the program that made making spreadsheets a whole lot easier. Windows has been my favorite platform for nearly 2 decades, and it will remain so for unforeseeable future. I use MS Office daily and of course, MS Excel is in regular usage as well. I am, however, talking about the Windows program here. The Microsoft Excel app seems to have nailed down almost every feature of its big brother. I would highly recommend you use a large screen tablet to view or edit Excel files. The app is only available in select regions for some reason, but U.S and Europe are covered. The free version of the app allows you to view, create and edit documents on many devices. However, if you want to unlock the full potential of the app, you will need to purchase a subscription of Office 365. Free Version
